Health and Safety

We aim to provide a safe workplace for all employees and create a culture where health and safety are key concerns.

Prevention is critical to our approach, based on a robust safe conditions, safe acts and reporting system, with safety awareness campaigns for all, and especially at-risk teams such as warehouse technicians and truck drivers.

We are fully committed to providing a safe place to work, as our 2025 Great Place To Work survey results show: 89% of respondents across our Group said in 2025 that is a physically safe place to work.

Developing our people

We aim to ensure the opportunities we offer are a good fit with the skills and ambitions of each individual and with our current and future capability requirements.

We offer a range of local and Group programmes to ensure that our employees, current and future leaders develop and grow in line with these capability requirements and with the  values and culture that underpin our organisation.

Promoting career development and internal mobility are priorities and we provide support to employees with the ability and motivation to realise these ambitions.

We also offer mentoring from senior leaders for high potential leaders to enable them to realise their ambitions.

Working at Bunzl feels fulfilling and meaningful, providing me with the opportunity to engage in projects that align with my professional interests. I contribute, learn, develop, grow, and collaborate with skilled teams across businesses and divisions. Before Bunzl, I worked at a top company with an exceptional leadership program. I was pleasantly surprised by Bunzl's extensive formal programs, especially the Accelerate program, which benefited my personal and professional growth. Bunzl's core values, especially humility, are always evident and leaders treat me as an equal, value my input, and ensure my voice is heard.

I was honoured to be involved in the High Potential course and had a great time the whole way through - I am passionate about self-development in any form. On a professional level I found the course extremely educational, and it helped me grow in my role and my commercial business knowledge, which helped me secure a promotion from Territory Account Manager to Regional Account Manager.

Sustainability

To minimise our impact on the world around us, maintain resilience and support our customers to meet their objectives, we have been working to take action on sustainability across our operations and value chain at Bunzl. We are pleased to have made good progress over the last five years and the subject is firmly embedded in what we do and how we operate.

Our businesses work to reduce carbon emissions, address social inequalities, and drive the shift towards a more circular economy. While the sustainability efforts of our operating companies are tailored to the specific challenges, they and their customers face, reflecting the unique opportunities and obstacles in their regions and markets, it is the collective endeavour of all our businesses that enables us to achieve our Group wide sustainability goals.

Although the sustainability efforts and strategies of our regions and individual operating companies may differ, they all feature (and in most cases are structured around) the four key themes contained in our Group sustainability strategy:

Inclusion & belonging

In Bunzl we strive for an inclusive culture where everyone, irrespective of background, can thrive and build their careers.   Creating the conditions for Inclusion & belonging goes beyond simply treating people fairly. By accepting and embracing their diversity, and removing any perceived or real barriers to engagement, we are committed to creating an inclusive, equitable and positive working environment for all employees so that they can develop a strong sense of belonging, whilst developing individually and professionally.

In 2025 81% of respondents to The GPTW survey across the Bunzl Group said that “I can be myself around here”.

Women in leadership in Bunzl

We monitor and report on the representation of women in senior roles (Board and Executive Committee) and the broader senior leadership population (c 530 of our leaders who receive share options as part of their remuneration). We are proud of the progress we have made, increasing the number of females in senior leadership roles to 25%.

We recognise we can continue to improve are taking the following actions:

  • giving all high potential females an internal or external mentor,
  • ensuring that we consider female candidates where we can for senior leadership roles, and
  • providing a voice for under-represented colleagues, and acting on their feedback to address any real or perceived barriers to engagement
  • continuing with the roll out of our successful employee resource groups which include women’s networks; next generation professionals; diverse ethnic groups

In September 2025 all our employees took part in the Great Place to Work Survey and we are pleased that the results that are indicators of inclusion and belonging:

Bridging gaps to drive inclusivity and innovation in the workplace

As part of our commitment to ensure that Bunzl has an inclusive culture where everyone, irrespective of background, can thrive and build their careers, we launched a reverse mentoring programme for the Group leadership team in 2024. Reverse mentoring is a practice where employees at an earlier stage of their career and from different backgrounds mentor more experienced colleagues, often in areas like technology, social media, and current trends. This approach fosters a two-way exchange of knowledge and perspectives, breaking down traditional hierarchical barriers. We hoped that the programme would promote inclusivity and understanding across different generations, cultures, and backgrounds. By valuing the insights of these employees, we aim to create a more dynamic and innovative workplace, where diverse ideas and experiences are celebrated and leveraged for growth.

Two participants in this programme were Dale Stokes, Business Area Head UK & Ireland and Mala Narula, Senior Internal Audit Manager.

Dale’s experience was one of developing new perspectives. “I found a safe space with my mentor to discuss sensitive topics, focusing on diversity themes like age, gender, and race. Hearing from someone with a different background and with experience of living and working in many different countries brought fresh perspectives. During the programme we shared insights with one another from the various external events that we had attended and used real-life Bunzl situations to explore the obstacles facing colleagues from different backgrounds.”

Mala realised just how diverse Bunzl was due to its decentralised structure  “It was so interesting to see that two individuals who work for the same company have had very different experiences – I can see why some colleagues stay at Bunzl for many years and feel they have had multiple careers.”
